Alignment ] Balance ] Centricity ]

Why is it that when we speak of reinventing the wheel that we are using it as a metaphor for something we should NOT do?  What if your wheel needs reinventing? Or at very least renovating, reviewing or renewing?

What if your wheel is pulling to the left or right?

What if it is developing road noise?  Creating a lot of vibration?  Creating flatspots on the tyre?

What if it is beconing a very wobbly wheel?

What can we do to Align, Balance , Centre our wheels of life?

Reinventing the Wheel

The wheel was invented thousands of years ago, and yet we are still so reliant on it.

Wheels get people and goods from A to B to Z day in and day out.  Take care of them and you will get a lot of use out of them.  Neglect them and you can have anything on a scale of minor trouble to full-blown disasters.

Wheels need care, and three key factors in that care are Alignment, Balance, and Centricity.  We personally need care, maintenance and repair, and the same factors apply – Alignment, Balance and Centricity, the ABC’s of my wheel, my wheel of life.

Imagine  your life as a wheel, and this wheel has a job to do, a route to take, a speed to maintain.  It has to handle the bumps and turns in the road, it has to handle high speed, tight corners, sharp braking, handbrake turns and the odd bit of showing off.  Your wheel is powered, or at least it should be.

This wheel of your life has a centre, a hub if you will, it has spokes, and it has a rim.  The rim rests on the spokes, and they rest on the hub. If your centre is unstable, then your spokes cannot do their job properly, which is to support the rim and your rim can become weak and uneven at points, affecting the ride. Your wheel needs to be round, not square or octagonal.  It needs to be fit for purpose. It needs to be balanced. Your wheel needs to be aligned, true to where you are going. When any of these elements goes out of whack, so does the ride quality – your life.

One of the great battlegrounds of the new century is within the private world of the individual. The values of our Western culture incline us to believe that the busy, publicly active person in ministry is also the most spiritual. In Ordering Your Private World, Gordon MacDonald equips a new generation to live life from the inside out, cultivating the inner victory necessary for public effectiveness. (kalahari.net)
