There has been some discussion on the difference
between mentoring and discipleship in the Christian context, further complicated
by disagreement on the place of accountability in either, if any, of these
relationships. I believe that there is a distinction, however subtle, between discipleship and mentoring, and that there is room for accountability in both of these relationships, should both discipleship and mentoring not be occurring in the same relationship. Let me attempt some definitions, and then move on to describe how these could effectively be used in the context of the local church. The definitions are simplistic, but serve the purpose of illustration.
